Is osteopathy useful during pregnancy?

As wonderful as it is to have a new life growing in mom's belly, pregnancy can sometimes be very stressful: nausea, vomiting, heartburn, back pain, urinary leakage or extreme tiredness - there are a variety of pregnancy complaints and it is not surprising when you consider what the female body accomplishes in these 9 months.

First and foremost, you need to be gentle with yourself and use your own resources carefully. Osteopathy can provide additional relief for some ailments.

How can osteopathy help during pregnancy?

Osteopathy is used during pregnancy to treat the pregnancy using very gentle techniques and relaxing methods. You should also consult your treating gynecologist or midwife. Osteopaths use very gentle techniques.

During osteopathic work to prepare for birth, great importance is placed on regulating the muscles that are largely responsible for the birth process. The parts of the lumbar spine that are responsible for the birth should also be highly mobile, which is why these are also the focus of osteopathic treatment during pregnancy.

If all factors are aligned and the mother can go into birth relaxed, the osteopath is satisfied to support a positive birth experience for mother and child.

Do I have to undress when I see an osteopath?

A clear no! Even though certain scar tissue and postures need to be assessed first, we ask that you bring light sports clothing with you and keep it on. The patient should feel completely comfortable and relaxed during the treatment.

How much does osteopathic treatment for pregnant women cost?

An osteopathic treatment costs on average between 150 and 300 euros. The costs depend on the location of the treatment (practice visit or home visit; Germany or abroad; etc.), the complexity of the case and the length of the treatment. Please clarify any questions in advance, including whether your insurance will cover part of the treatment costs, as osteopathy is a purely private service in Germany.
